Georgian thick sterling link chain w Garnet/Turquoise Locket
This is one of the finest sterling link chains I have ever seen. The only hallmarks I can read are the letters H P, the lion passant, and what looks like SAFENT. The lion passant denotes sterling. But, I did still test the chain and locket for sterling. The locket is very detailed with ornate silver-work on the back and front. Also a cabachon Garnet in the center and small garnets and persian Turquoise around the front. The length of the chain with the locket is 24″. The locket itself measures 1 1/4″ X 1 1/8″. Inside the locket one side is silver and the other is gold colored. I believe at one point both sides were perhaps gold plated. The locket snaps closed very tight. Weight is 48.3g. I would date this marvelous Georgian piece at c1780′s-1800.
