Large and very fine Victorian Scottish Agate brooch. The metal tested for sterling silver. This looks like a shield brooch. Around the edges are deep rich Carnelian. There is silver-work in between the stones. The fancy cut stones are bloodstone, moss agate, banded gray agate and a lovely ball of Carnelian in the center. On the back is engraved ” To My God-Daughter Rosamond” The old C clasp works very well, and there is a small loop to add an additional safety chain. The stones are in wonderful condition for age. No chips or cracks that I can find. The brooch measures 2″ round, not including the silver pieces that stick out. Weight is 41.4 grms. I would date this beautiful brooch at c1860′s-80′s.
